The Home
Chateau Garreau is a 150 years old wineyard, situated in the wine district Entre Deux Mers, 30 minutes southeast
of Bordeaux in the department Gironde. After 40 years of Cinderella sleep, Chateau Garreau was discovered 1999
by a group of Scandinavian horse riders, this led to what the castle is today. Totally renovated with a very tasteful
French/Scandinavian touch.
Chateau Garreau is perfect for families who would like to spend a vacation together in surroundings where
children and adults have a lot of space and a lot of recreation possibilities. The typical French farm kitchen is a
very inspiring place to cook together, the food and wines you find in this part of France are of superb quality and
there is a wide variety of fresh fish and seafood from the Ocean as well as ducks, fois gras, wild animals, fruits and
vegetables.
The main building has three floors with quite different atmosphere.
The ground floor is very elegant and contains a large country kitchen with open fire place, a dining room with open
fire place, two salons, one with open fire place and TV/video, a patio under roof with an outdoor barbeque, a “salle
de jeu” with French billiard, table tennis, flipper, TV/video and a lot of other games and a large covered “loggia”
with a tremendous view over the wine stocks and the valley below. The upper floor has three large elegant
bedrooms with shower/bath and WC and a separate room especially for children with sloping ceiling and a lot of
pillows. The basement is more rustic and very much like a French farmhouse with raw stonewalls mixed with wood.
The basement has three bedrooms with big two storey-beds in each room, a shared bathroom with shower/WC, a
basic kitchen and a small living room.
Chateau Garreau has a heated pool, 18 x 6 meters and a large garden. The house is situated near forests and
wine stocks, yet close to attractive cities and historical sites. The old stable and the stone barn give extra charm
and touch to the chateau. There are 12 bikes and 1 “mobilette” available, maybe you would like to try some of our
recommended “gastro vélo” tours in the beautiful surroundings.
The Neighborhood
The surroundings of Chateau Garreau. Winestocks and forests cover the hilly landscape, you will often see wild
animals and when sitting at the big patio in the evening the only sounds that heard are from the cicadas and wild
boars. The landscape is perfect for excursions by bike, foot, horse or car. There are small medieval villages and
towns, castles, lakes and rivers. And everywhere wine farmers, well known, not only for their excellent wines, but

(wine tasting) .
The nearest town is Cadillac (yes, the american car is named after this town) , 2 km from Garreau. The town has a
lot of charm, a town wall, a castle, 9 restaruants, 4 bars. . . and every saturday there is a fantastic food and wine
market where you can easily spend a couple of hours in the morning to prepare a real gourmet dinner at Chateau
Garreau.

waves, small fishermen villages, nice tourist towns like Archachon, Biarriz, Mimizan, Lacaneau, the highest sand
